Design Market @ PMQ
These days, everyone is talking about supporting local design talent and fostering a community of creatives in Hong Kong. One such initiative that has taken it upon themselves to showcase Hong Kong designers is the Design Market. Created by Simon Lock and Kim Hoang of Brand X, Design Market is a weekend event that is set to happen every Sunday this August, October and November at the new Police Married Headquarters (aka PMQ) venue. The Design Market kicked off last Sunday with a selection of some of Hong Kong's brightest design stars, including s.nine by Susanna Soo, Melissa Bui, Story by Story, What the Frock, Demo, Chew The Cud and many others. Kim Hoang took inspiration from other successful market formats from around the world, including Portobello Market in London and Paddington Market in Sydney, which were the launching pads for many designers' now successful careers. Kim and Simon saw an opportunity in the Asian market to create a similar environment in which local designers could present their wares in a pubic setting, using their collective power to draw upon more customers and exposure for them all. There are so many talented local designers in Hong Kong who are all too often overshadowed by the fame and allure of well-known luxury brands from Europe and the United States. Design Market is the perfect place to find a piece that is truly unique and, of course, there is the added bonus of feeling great about supporting local creatives, too! Stylecab hopes that we will be seeing you all there this Sunday.
