Look We Love: 9 Ways to Wear The Woman's Suit
Ever since Hedi Slimane first sent a his posse of models strutting down the catwalk at his debut show for Saint Laurent, the fashion world has been enamoured with girls in suits. The woman's suit has become so popular that celebrities have been forgoing gowns in favourite of a crisp tailored look on the red carpet. Actresses such as Angelina Jolie and Emma Watson have had knockout turns at premiers and press tours all over the world with this modern new look. Here at Stylecab, we're also obsessed with the woman's suit. Why? Regardless of the celebrity endorsements, we love the woman's suit quite simply because there are actually so many different ways in which to wear it, making it suitable for a range of different personal styles and lifestyles. And so, in honour of our love for the woman's suit, here are 9 ways to wear it that we hope will inspire you to try out the look.
#1: Angelina Jolie in Saint Laurent. Angelina Jolie also recently featured in an editorial in ELLE Magazine's June 2014, in which she was lensed by Hedi Slimane, creative director at Saint Laurent, wearing - you guessed it - lots of Saint Laurent tailored pieces. The trend has since hit its boiling point with actresses of all styles opting to try a suit on the red carpet.
#2: Jennifer Connelly in Yves Saint Laurent in 2011, wearing variation on the woman's suit, the shorts suit, a Stylecab favourite for summer.
#3: Jennifer Connelly wore the suited look again recently, this time opting for an all-black full suit look. She added a feminine touch by pairing her slim back suit with a lace shirt underneath.
#4: Emma Watson keeps things crisp and minimal in Saint Laurent for her appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. We like how she opted for slingback heels instead of a run-of-the-mill pump, giving her look a subtly sexy touch.
#5: Aymeline Valade in Pallas. The French model wore a stiff black suit at the Cannes Film Festival, which complemented her svelte frame perfectly. She finished off her androgynous look with flat black oxfords and a small bow tie, but kept her hair down to add a touch of femininity.
#6: Emma Stone in Saint Laurent. This look was a departure from the majority of her Spiderman press-tour looks, which erred much much more on the side of soft and feminine, so it was a nice break in the endless gorgeous gowns we saw her wearing.
#7: Miley Cyrus in Versace, proving that you can still go super-sexy in a suit. In this case worn without a shirt underneath and pointy pumps.
#8: Robin Wright shows us again that a suit can be sexy, however she opts for a more sophisticated-sexy approach with a loose-fit trouser and wide peaked-lapel blazer with the sleeve pushed up.
#9: Gia Coppola in Saint Laurent. We love the cropped length of the trouser on this suit, as well as the sheer shirt underneath with the ruffled bib. It's an A++ for this look in our book!
