How to Wear: the Shorts Suit for Women
Last week, we showed our male readers how to wear one of the biggest menswear trends of the season: the shorts suit. Well, it turns out that the menswear trend was so popular with editors and fashion insiders that we've even seen the trend popping up on women on all the street style blogs recently. Yep, that's right. The shorts suit is equally as relevant this season for women as it is for men. It can be a daunting idea for many, but when done right, it looks so, so good and can be worn in so many different ways, from sexy to quirky to edgy to sophisticated. No matter what your personal style or lifestyle, there's bound to be at least one way to wear the shorts suit this summer. And the greatest thing about the shorts suit is its versatility, wear it as a set or wear the pieces individually; there are endless possibilities on how to incorporate it into your existing wardrobe, so it's truly a trend that gives you a great bang for your buck! Here are Stylecab's favourite ways to wear the shorts suit to get you inspired to try it out this summer!
Borrowed from the Boys: One of our favourite ways to wear the trend is to borrow it straight from the boys by selecting classic more masculine fabrics such as checkers and pairing it with a crisp white shirt and tie! Go all out! Don't forget to add a feminine twist with a pair of sleek pointy-toe heels. We love how Gary Pepper Girl wears the look!
Sleek Sexy Suiting: We think this is a great ultra-sexy way to wear the shorts suit! If you're not daring enough to go completely shirtless underneath, we suggest pairing it with a lace-trim camisole underneath for an equally seductive, but not quite as risqué, look.
Go Graphic: The shorts suit is a great way to wear graphic prints , when paired with a solid neutral underneath. We think it's the perfect summer statement, as proven here by The Man Repeller.
Retro Feminine: A shorts suit doesn't have to be strictly tailored and made from traditional suiting shapes. We love this feminine tweed version seen here on Gary Pepper Girl; the cropped boxy jacket gives the suit a more retro feeling and we love the way it looks paired with a rounded Peter Pan collar.
Floral: A floral shorts suit screams summer to us. Roll up those sleeves, add a basic tank underneath, then pile on the jewellery and you've got an easy go-to look.
Casual Cool: when we first saw digital media mogul Elin Kling wearing this chambray short suit several years back, we knew the look would eventually become a mass-market hit! Take a cue from the master of the shorts suit herself by pairing yours with your favourite worn-in loose tee and sneakers for an undeniably cool weekend look.
Sporty Twist: We love the juxtaposition of a tailored suit against a sporty tee, as seen here on DIY blogger extraordinaire, A Pair & A Spare. Another great casual-cool look for the weekend.
The Faux Shorts Suit: If you love the idea of a shorts suit, but don't want to be splash out on a whole new jacket and shorts, you can always just 'fake it' by pairing your favourite shorts with a blazer. It's not quite a shorts suit, but it's close enough!
